How To Eliminate Decoration Dilemmas!

Organising a wedding is a a huge job (some wedding planners say it involves over 300 tasks!) that requires lots of preparation, planning & co-ordination of different suppliers and materials that reflect yourself and your partner. The whole process can drive some girls crazy & I understand why!!As an event stylist, I'm constantly on the look out for ideas and inspiration that match the brides that I'm working with at the time. My mind is always in overdrive trying to thing of new ideas, how I can create them, where I can get them, how they will look etc. Thankfully I've worked out a really simple way to help my decoration decision dilemmas! Basically I create a mock up of my table and begin by buying small things that I think will work. For example this is a picture of some things I have purchased for Stephi & Xavier's wedding in June. There are small fabric swatches, a single brooche, some tassels & flowers from my garden. I put them all on my studio/kitchen table and start building my table adding and subtracting things as my ideas change and begin to form. For brides to be I strongly suggest doing the same because its not until you "see" everything together that your ideas will start to come together. Being visual (and indecisive!) this helps me to work out what works and what doesn't. Trust me if it doesn't look good on your kitchen table it wont look good at your reception!! So good luck! PS: You can always contact me for help too!!

Brides Maides Dresses The Same Colour As The Bride??

I don't think many girls will like this idea but I personally love it....well the way it was done here. I think it looks so beautiful and its a brave bride that chooses to have her brides maids in the same colour after all most of us want to be the centre of attention.....at least for 1 day (especially with all the hard work leading up to it)!

Actually with all my internet searching this is the first time I can remember seeing the brides maids being the same colour. Although they do have the black band around their waists...but I have seen this done on wedding dresses. What do you think? I've created a poll to see what the general consenus is . My guess is most girls won't go for it, but we'll see!

Cute Idea For Your Photos

Just a quick one for today! How cute is this idea and it's so simple! You can have your ceremony booklet held by your future husband and have your photographer take a photo, or as an alternative hold the booklet together. I love how it just shows his hands, tie and beautiful button hole. Its a perfect shot that's clever and easy to do and would be perfect for the start of your wedding photo album. And 1 guess for where I found this image....none other than one of my favorite site...www.realweddings.com! I should get a commission from these guys! But they seriously are one of the best. My Favorite Wedding For The Week! Yellow Pop

I have no idea why I didn't think of adding my favorite weddings into my blog! But I have now so welcome to the first one that I am calling "Yellow Pop"! I found it while looking for ideas for my wedding in June for Stephi & Xavier on a must see website called Inside Weddings.

The reason I love it so much is because of the unusual and virtually never used colour scheme. They have used black, yellow and white a combination that's normally associated with football teams and discount stores! Through the clever use of styling and incredible attention to detail they have made it look so stylish and classic. In fact I would have this and I would never ever think of that for me. I also love the use of the yellow lanterns hanging from the trees it make everything just "pop". Now, I've only included one photo of the ceremony here but you can see others by clicking here! Enjoy
PS: Let me not forget to credit the amazing photographer
John Solano too.

My Next Wedding - Stephi & Xavier

Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd let you know that I am currently working on the most beautiful wedding ever for a much in love couple....Stephi and Xavier. Their wedding date is June 12th...in the heart of Australian winter so we're going to make it all warm and super romantic. I'm going to post on their wedding so you can get an idea of what happens behind the scenes. For now here is an inspiration board that I have put together with ideas or their weddings which has 2 unique locations. The ceremony is in a beautiful cinema called the Capri and their reception is at Camelot Castle. Their colours are soft pinks, ivory and silver and my job is to style the event so that it looks amazing. With great venues like these it shouldn't be too difficult! I'll keep you posted :)

Where To Get Some Unique Inspiration

I'm often asked by brides, friends and family, where do I get my ideas from? I have to say that I am always on the lookout whether I'm shopping for groceries or watching a foreign film! One example of a movie I found incredibly inspiring is "Curse of the Golden Flower" it is truly an feast for your eyes with incredible colour, set and costume design. I also find homeware and interior design magazines and even graphic design magazines fantastic for original ideas outside of the "wedding" context. Of course I also sweep the internet all the time! Here are just 2 of my favorites that I suggest brides visit outside of the traditional bridal magazines.

One of my favorite sites is www.designerguild.com. They are a fabric design and manufacturing company and their site is full of beautifully detailed fabrics. They have recently released their "Royal Collection" based on all the beautiful art and furniture found in the Royal Palace! Its divine. I find their colour combination's so inspiring ( I wish I could do this!) and I visit this site when I need a colour boost! Another site that I also love is www.houseandgarden.com. Here you will find the latest of all things to do with anything beautiful for your home! They also have fantastic bloggers that blog virtually every day telling your about their latest finds. So if your feeling short of ideas or want something different for your day. Here's a photo I found today on their site....don't you love different lanterns inside the pagola and those round tubs in the middle! Gorgeous!!! Check these two sites for ideas and I'll post others soon! Love it!

Find The Worlds Best Photographers Here!

If you want your special day captured by the best, then you must visit www.wpja.com. So what does this strange acronym stand for? It's the Wedding Photojournalist Association a website that highlights the best photo journalists in the wedding industry from around the world.

So what's the difference between a regular wedding photographer and a photojournalist? It seems that the photos are more "documentary" in style capturing more natural, candid and creative images as they happen rather than "staged" photography. This photo is just one of hundreds...probably thousands on their site. Taken by by Greg Gibson an award winning photographer it is a great example of the "photojournalistic" style you can expect these photographers to take. I suggest visiting the website so you can see individual profiles and photos that are categorised by state and country. And don't worry if you fall in love with one and they are not in your state or country most will travel too! I have spent hours and hours on this website so be prepared to lose yourself in utter beauty, humor and touching moments.

How To Make Your Wedding Really Unique!

Ok, so I know this is suppose to be a wedding decorations idea blog but I have to share this idea (god I wish I thought of this for my wedding!). If you have the courage to do it and your fiance is a bit of a groover then this is perfect for you. So what is it? If you have missed the many You Tube clips of couples first dance that have been hitting the news for the last couple of ideas then you better check this one out that I have found.

The idea is halfway through your formal dance, the music (unexpectantly for your guests) changes to something fast and funky and you and your partner surprise your guests with a pre-rehersed dance routine that makes them go wild! Its heaps of fun and will have your guests cheering for more! You can take private lessons at a dance school...it only needs to be 1-2 mins long or work out a routine at home! This idea is an excellent way to break up the formalities of the first half of your reception and bring on the party atmostphere for the rest of the night. Click here for one of my favorites! Crank up your sound and enjoy!!

How To Make Your Wedding Cake Stand Out!

Visiting wedding websites is probably the easiest and fastest way to get access to some really beautiful ideas. The problem is finding the websites to go to! One that you can surely get some great ideas and from where todays great idea comes from is http://www.marthastewart.com/. The queen of beauty and great ideas I visit her site regularly to check out the "real weddings" section to see what amazing ideas are out there.

Todays "Great Wedding Idea" is pictured here. I found it when visiting the real weddings section of Martha's site this is from Anna and Masons wedding located in Pasadena. You see a lot of time is put into the decoration of the cake but by the time the evening comes the cake can look a little dull from the low lighting around it. To ensure it stands out like it should I suggest placing a lot of beautiful t-lite votives around the base of your cake as pictured here. Place this at the front and the side of the cake so when it is time for you to cut it the t-lites wont be in your way and obstruct it. This simple idea will give a beautiful warm glow to your cake and will ensure it gets the attention it deserves PLUS it will also look great in your photos. Votives are rougly .50cent-$1 each including the t-lite candle (you can get them cheaper too)! Its perhaps the cheapest decoration you'll do for your entire wedding and I highly recommend it to add more "wow" to your evening!
